The programme is meant to reach the larger section of the society particularly the rural and SC/ST population and the women folk. The overall aim is to promote the socio-economic and health hygiene and nutritional status of the target population through the use of biotechnology products and processes. Projects would be supported in identified areas with focus on strengthening their livelihood, developing their skills, improving their nutritional status, entrepreneurship development and addressing the basic hygiene issues.
Continue projects/ programme mode support to some extent with certain modification/ revisions of funding guidelines for the social sector. Projects on ‘Women Health, Hygiene & Nutrition’ would be taken up under the Biotechnology based programme for women. The other programmes for the upliftment of SC/ST and Rural people will be taken up in the areas such as medicinal & aromatic plants, mushroom cultivation, horticulture, sericulture, application of bio-fertilisers & bio-pesticides, floriculture, aquaculture, poultry farming and animal husbandry. A new programme on vocational training of women and youths will be identified.
Scheme will continue in all the three areas to support diffusion of technologies and setting up of Rural Bio Resource Complexes and entrepreneurship development centers.
