The emergence of various lifestyle diseases, as well as the market getting clogged with all kinds of products that are generally unhealthy or contain elements of genetic modification not suited to Indian health conditions, has become a surce of concern.
Along with that certain diseases such as anaemia, diarrhoea etc, which are endemic in the country, calls for a focussed to food and nutritional research as well as product development.
Over the years, the Department of Biotechnology has developed a robust programme in this front, which is multi-faceted.
