DBT-IAVI Collaborative Effort on HIV/AIDS Vaccine Research (International collaboration)
The objectives are
Accelerating HIV/AIDS vaccine development and evaluation that may be relevant for India.
To establish a collaborative group to provide creative concepts for immunogen design and the infrastructure for subsequent HIV/AIDS vaccine candidate evaluation.
Indian Medicinal Chemistry Programme was initiated in 2007, as collaborative initiative by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the International Aids Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) through an MoU which has been further extended upto December, 2015. The Indian Medicinal Chemistry Programme, compliments the efforts of IAVI’s Neutralizing Antibody Consortium (NAC), by devising innovative strategies for translation in HIV envelope structures towards immunogen design.
Currently the following programmes are operational
“Development of conformationally preferred immunogens as vaccine candidates against HIV-infection” at ICGEB, New Delhi; and
“Design of Peptide Analogs of Secondary Structural Elements and the b12 Binding Site of HIV-1 Gp120” at IISc, Bangalore
