The Department of Biotechnology is collaborating with Academy of Medical Sciences under the auspices of the Newton-Bhabha Fund. Under the partnership, fellowship is being offered to the Indian Medical Research community, to support the Research and Innovation capacity of India for it’s long term sustainable growth. Under the “People” strand of the Newton Fund, the Academy of Medical Sciences is offering Newton International Fellowships (NIFs) to Indian Research Community, covering the field of clinical and patient oriented research. To facilitate continuation of the scheme, DBT is implementing the “follow-on” DBT Alumini Scheme for Newton International Fellows (Alumini-NIFs) upon their return to India.
The Alumni Scheme would provide follow-on support to Newton International Fellows (NIFs) from India whose funding has come to an end. It is envisaged that a ‘follow-on’ grant from the DBT will strengthen the ties between NIFs from India and high-quality research environments in the UK.
